Mary McCutcheon, the chair of the firm's Construction and Insurance Department, represents corporate and individual policyholders in a wide variety of insurance coverage disputes.

Her wide-ranging experience includes coverage disputes arising out of: securities investigations, class actions and derivative actions, venture capital and private equity litigation, intellectual property and technology errors and omissions lawsuits, highly sensitive employment claims, mass casualty personal injury actions and construction defect claims. She also represents companies in business interruption and property damage claims arising out of natural disasters such as earthquakes and fires.

Ms. McCutcheon has special expertise advising companies and individual directors regarding issues involved in the placement of directors' and officers' liability, management liability and financial services liability insurance and related indemnification issues, as well as handling claims under those policies. She also advises clients on risk transfer and claims under self-insurance and traditional insurance programs.

Ms. McCutcheon is a founding member and current President of the American College of Coverage Counsel. She is recognized by Chambers USA as one of the leading insurance attorneys in California, and Best Lawyers in America in the area of insurance law. In addition, Ms. McCutcheon received Legal Momentum’s Women of Achievement Award in 2016.

Ms. McCutcheon has edited the “Directors & Officers Liability Insurance” chapter in the California Practice Guide Insurance Litigation. She is a past member of the editorial boards of the ABTL Newsletter and the CGL Reporter. She speaks on insurance topics at professional conferences, such as those sponsored by the American Bar Association, the American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Counsel; the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Association of Corporation Counsel.
